From May 17th to May 19th, 2025, the final round of the 18th "Challenge Cup" Guangdong College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, jointly organized by the Communist Youth League Guangdong Provincial Committee, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, the Guangdong Provincial Students' Federation, and the People's Government of Zhaoqing Municipality, and hosted by Zhaoqing University, was successfully held. The team from Shenzhen University performed outstandingly in the competition, winning 5 special prizes, 7first prizes, 4 second prizes and 4 third prizes in the main event. Two first prizes and two third prizes were awarded in the Zhaoqing Special Competition. In this competition, students from our college demonstrated a solid professional foundation and outstanding innovation ability, winning the Special Prize, First Prize and Third Prize of Guangdong Province.
Introduction to Award-winning Projects
1. Special Prize Project
Project Name: Chasing Dreams Blueprint - Research on Ultra-Narrow Spectrum Blue Light Materials for Micro-OLED Applications
Competition Category: Academic Track - Technology Invention and Production Category
Team members: Guo Yuxi, Li Yulan, Ma Jiacheng, Li Zhexian, Chen Xintong, Chen Junjin, Huang Mengyu
Instructors: Yin Xiaojun, Cao Xiaosong, Yang Chuluo
Project Introduction: Chasing Dreams Blueprint focuses on the research and development of Micro-OLED blue light materials. Micro-OLED is the core technology of AR/VR/MR display, while blue light materials have problems such as poor stability, low color purity and high energy consumption due to their high excitation energy. The project integrates three major technologies: thermally activated delayed fluorescence, multiple resonance, and intramolecular self-sensitization. It innovatively develops highly efficient, stable, and low-cost narrow-band blue light materials, breaking through foreign patent barriers and promoting the localization of core materials.

2. First Prize Projects
Project Name: Enter the Realm of Excellence -Key Technical Breakthroughs Empower Selenides, Ushering in a New Era of Thermoelectricity
Competition Category: Academic papers in natural science
Team members: Li Yugeng, Huang Xiaopei, Guo Yu, Zhang Mengyuan, Lai Jianye, Song Siyuan, Lin Ke 'er, Peng Jiaying
Instructors: Hu Lipeng, Zhuo Wenqi, Cao Yihong
Project Introduction: As a thermoelectric material in the medium-temperature range, GeSe’s orthotropic phase is limited due to its low ZT value and the difficulty in phase transition regulation. This study innovatively proposed a chemical bond regulation strategy, inducing orthogonally cubic phase transitions by optimizing bond characteristics, revealing the mechanism of cationic vacancy assistance in stabilizing pure-phase cubic GeSe under low doping levels, breaking through the technical bottleneck of high doping, and achieving a significant increase in ZT value.

3. Third Prize Project
Project Name: Hydrogen Lightning - Pioneer of Low-Cost, High-Activity and Ultra-Stable Electrodes for Hydrogen Production through Seawater Electrolysis
Competition Category: Academic Track - Technology Invention and Production Category
Team members: Wei Xiaotian, Zhu Yuxin, Su Ning, Zheng Zhenqi, Zhang Xingxin, Guo Xiaodong, Qu Lihang, Huang Cheng, Huang Zhixin
Instructors: Liu Dong, Wu Huanyu, Wang Zhenbo
Project Introduction: Due to the short lifespan and low efficiency of the electrodes used for electrolyzing seawater to produce hydrogen, as well as the long preparation cycle of commercial electrodes available on the market, the development of this field has been restricted. The project has independently created the world's first double-exclusion chlorine layer electrode, which can greatly prevent the corrosion of the electrode by chloride ions in seawater. This enables the electrode to be prepared on a large scale in just 1 minute, and it also features an extremely high electrolysis efficiency, effectively promoting the large-scale development of the electrolytic seawater hydrogen production industry.

The outstanding achievements our college have made in this "Challenge Cup" competition are a testament to the dedication of our teachers and students to scientific research and their persistent efforts to enhance their innovation capabilities. In the future, the college will continue to improve its ability to serve students, provide strong support for teachers and students to participate in high-level competitions, promote learning through competitions, and drive the college's educational and teaching work to a new level.
