College of Materials Science and Engineering Hosts Academic Lecture by Wiley Materials Science Journal Editors

To assist researchers in improving their success rate in publishing papers in Wiley's materials and chemistry journals, theCollegeof Materials Scienceand Engineeringinvited a team of Wiley editors to deliver an academic lecture titled"Publishing in Wiley Materials Science Journals—Insights from Editors"on the afternoon of May 15, 2025. The eventinvitedDr. Zhang Xiaoyu (Director of Journal Development and Associate Editor at Wiley), Dr. Cui Shaoying (Editor-in-Chief at Wiley), Ms. Wang Lu (Publisher at Wiley), and Dr. Peng Kun (Journal Manager ofAggregate). The lecture provided professional guidance to help researchers address practical challenges in manuscript submission and publication, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of academic publishing. The event was chaired by Vice Dean Wang Dong of theCollegeof Materials Scienceand Engineering.

Executive Dean Wang Lei delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of publishing high-impact papers based on his own experience. He noted thatourcollegeis currently in a critical phase of rapid development, where high-quality publications play a vital role in elevating academic influence and advancing disciplinary growth. Dean Wang encouraged attendees to actively engage with the Wiley editorial team, seize this rare opportunity for face-to-face exchange, and refine their scientific writing and publishing skills to contribute to thecollege's progress.

Dr. Zhang Xiaoyuprovided an in-depth introduction to Wiley's materials science journals.Ms. Wang Lupresented key journals such asLuminescence,Flavour and Fragrance Journal, andPhytochemical Analysis.

Dr. Cui Shaoyingsystematically explained the manuscript handling process, with a focus on the manuscript transfer mechanism. Using real-world cases, she analyzed eight common reasons for rejection, including ethical issues, lack of novelty, and logical inconsistencies.Dr. Peng Kungave a comprehensive overview ofAggregate, covering its scope, publishing model, activities, and promotional strategies.

The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion, where faculty and students engaged with the Wiley editors on specific challenges in academic publishing. The event was well-received, with lively exchanges and a strong academic atmosphere.

Participants gained valuable insights into editors' key considerations during initial manuscript review, as well as practical tips for optimizing paper structure and content throughout the writing and submission process. Attendees reported a clearer understanding of submission standards, peer-review logic, and publication workflows, along with actionable strategies to improve paper quality and acceptance rates.
