Exciting Achievements: College of Materials Science and Engineering of Shenzhen University Achieves Excellence in Communist Youth League Work

Shenzhen, China – December 15, 2024 – The Shenzhen University 2023-2024 Youth League and Student Union Work Review and Awards Ceremony was held on December 15, 2024, at the International Conference Hall. During the event, the Shenzhen University League Committee was awarded the prestigious May Fourth Red Flag League Committee (Model) award for 2023. This recognition celebrates the committee's outstanding efforts in fostering student development and promoting impactful campus-wide initiatives. Additionally, the ‘Key to Progress’ project won the Grand Prize in the 2024 Li Yuan Challenge Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition’s Academic Track, underscoring the university’s commitment to academic and entrepreneurial excellence. The conference also highlighted Shenzhen University’s ongoing focus on fostering innovation and leadership within its academic community.

   

Over the past year, the Youth League Committee of College of Materials Science and Engineering of Shenzhen University has prioritized ideological and political education, emphasizing core areas such as ideological leadership, grassroots development, and youth service. The committee has made significant strides in organizational development, optimizing the operation of its structure, and expanding its outreach through cultural, sports, career planning, social practice, and volunteer initiatives. These efforts have contributed to the overall growth of League members, inspiring a strong sense of responsibility among the youth. This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of the committee's dedication and achievements.

In innovation and entrepreneurship, the Youth League Committee has actively built platforms and integrated resources, encouraging student participation in various competitions. This year, 13 projects from the School of Materials Science competed in the 2024 Li Yuan Challenge Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The projects earned remarkable results, including 1 special prize, 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 1 third prize in the academic track, as well as 2 silver and 1 bronze prize in the entrepreneurship track. These successes reflect the college’s strong performance in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Key to Progress” – Metavalent Bonding Unlocks a New Era in Thermoelectric Conversion Efficiency of Selenides

The ‘Key to Progress’ team conducted groundbreaking research on GeSe, a thermoelectric material with significant potential for development. The team’s innovative approach focused on addressing the challenges of existing thermoelectric materials, which are often expensive, toxic, and difficult to scale commercially. By tailoring chemical bonds from covalent to Metavalent bonds, the team achieved a transformation in GeSe’s crystal structure, improving its thermoelectric performance and providing a new avenue for optimizing other similar materials. The team's contributions include three high-level SCI papers and two invention patents, further advancing the field of thermoelectric research.

Looking ahead, the Youth League Committee of College of Materials Science and Engineering of Shenzhen University will continue its work philosophy of “cohesion through serving the youth”. It will deepen ideological and political education, strengthen grassroots league organizations, and serve the development of young people. Additionally, the committee will further promote innovation and entrepreneurship, striving for new breakthroughs and achievements across various domains.
