In-depth implementation of the college's decision and deployment to suspend all laboratory experiments at the end of the semester for centralized safety rectification, effectively ensuring the safe and stable operation of laboratories and consolidating safety responsibility, the College of Materials Science and Engineering organized a laboratory experiment suspension activity from January 19 to 20, 2026. During this period, all safety officers conducted thorough safety rectification and submitted safety risk self-assessment forms and safety training records.

On January 21, a comprehensive inspection was carried out led by Party Secretary Lv Qian and Dean Wang Lei of the College of Materials Science and Engineering. They were joined by Vice Deans Chen Xiaoqiang and Zhu Deliang, along with all staff from the Materials Teaching and Experiment Center, forming four inspection teams. Adhering to the principle of "safety first, prevention foremost," the teams conducted on-site inspections of 149 research laboratories under the college's jurisdiction located in Buildings B2, B3, A6, and the Research Building, ensuring "full coverage with no blind spots." The inspectors visited each laboratory, focusing on key areas such as the storage and use of hazardous chemicals, high-risk experimental procedures, gas cylinder management, electrical fire safety, and laboratory environmental hygiene.

Identified safety hazards during the inspection were promptly recorded and uploaded to the "SZU Laboratory Safety" mini-program, accumulating 74 hazard records. Following on-site evaluation, 140 laboratories met safety requirements and were immediately reopened. The remaining laboratories that did not meet standards required continued suspension for rectification. That afternoon, after re-evaluation, the remaining 9 laboratories also passed inspection, thereby restoring normal operations for all research laboratories in the college.

During the inspection, college leaders emphasized that safety is the bottom line and red line for all works, and laboratory safety is directly related to the life and property safety of faculty and students, as well as the stable development of the college. Laboratory safety officers must earnestly fulfill their roles as primary responsible persons, immediately establish ledgers for identified issues and hazards, clarify rectification timelines and responsible personnel, resolutely implement closed-loop management, and ensure the comprehensive clearance of risks and hazards.

This comprehensive safety inspection was not only a solid hazard identification campaign but also a vivid safety education for all personnel. It further strengthened the safety red line awareness among faculty and students, enhanced the standardization level of laboratory safety management, and laid a solid foundation for creating a safe and harmonious research and teaching environment, ensuring campus safety and stability during the winter vacation.
