To enhance laboratory safety management and reinforce the accountability of laboratory safety officers, the College of Materials Science and Engineering convened its 2025 Laboratory Safety Work Conference on the afternoon of September 16. The meeting included the signing of the Laboratory Safety Responsibility Agreements. Attendees included Party Secretary Lv Qian, Vice Dean Zhu Deliang, all designated laboratory safety officers, and all members of the Experimental Center, totaling 73 participants.

The conference unequivocally reaffirmed that laboratory safety is a non-negotiable bottom line, leaving no room for complacency. Safety officers were urged to solidify their responsibilities and diligently manage laboratory safety to eliminate potential hazards. The meeting acknowledged the dedicated efforts and achievements of the school's members in laboratory safety over the past year and outlined key tasks for the upcoming year. While acknowledging continuous improvements in laboratory safety management, the meeting also highlighted persistent challenges, including diverse hazard sources and dispersed risk points. It emphasized the necessity of establishing a robust safety inspection mechanism led by clear responsibility, calling for a collective effort to fortify the school's safety defenses. The Teaching Experiment Center also detailed the specific duties of safety officers and the contents of the Laboratory Safety Responsibility Agreement.

Following this, teachers Zou Yang, Zhao Bin, Yan Dingyuan, and Liu Chen, representing the laboratory safety officers, shared their practical management experiences tailored to their respective laboratories' contexts. Teacher Zou Yang demonstrated the effectiveness of a new "Human & Technological Defense" model by implementing an intelligent management system for hazardous chemicals, showcasing clear improvements before and after its adoption. Teacher Zhao Bin emphasized that faculty members are the cornerstone of laboratory safety management, stating that their prioritization of safety is crucial for fostering student awareness and implementing risk management at the source. Teacher Yan Dingyuan advocated for making safety practices routine and systematic, integrating attention to detail into daily research activities. Using his own lab as an example, Teacher Liu Chen stressed the importance of leading by example—prioritizing safety in both mindset and action—to effectively mentor students and encourage their active participation in maintaining laboratory safety.

To conclude the meeting, Party Secretary Lv Qian and the representative safety officers formally signed the Laboratory Safety Responsibility Agreements on site, with all designated laboratory safety officers subsequently completing the signing process.

The convening of this conference marks a significant step in refining the laboratory safety responsibility framework and intensifying the safety accountability awareness among faculty. The college will use this meeting as a new starting point, continuously reinforcing safety commitments and integrating safety management requirements into everyday practices, thereby collectively building a solid safety foundation essential for the college's high-quality development.
