In accordance with the requirements for the summer break, the College of Materials Science and Engineering has launched a special laboratory safety inspection campaign to enhance laboratory safety management, eliminate potential hazards, prevent accidents, and reinforce the laboratory safety responsibility system.
On July 4, the Teaching Experiment Center issued an official notice to all laboratories, instructing them to suspend experiments on July 7–8 and conduct a comprehensive safety inspection. The head of safety were urged to take this initiative seriously, fulfill their primary responsibilities, and cooperate with the college-wide safety campaign.
On July 7, the Teaching Experiment Center conducted a targeted inspection on the standardized use of hazardous chemicals, focusing on issues such as proper management of hazardous chemicals and regular updates of chemical accounts and inventories. For any identified hazards or irregularities, the center immediately issued rectification notices with specific requirements.

On July 8, the head of safety organized on-site safety training sessions for all researchers, tailored to the specific risks of each lab. Over 80 training sessions were held, involving more than 400 participants. Additionally, expired or disused chemicals were collected and handed over to professional companies for centralized disposal, totaling 350 kilograms.

On the morning of July 9, the Teaching Experiment Center conducted a thorough inspection of all laboratories, assessing the implementation of the safety measures. The inspection covered equipment, safety facilities, warning labels, and emergency preparedness. A total of 103 research laboratories were examined, with over 150 hazards rectified. Laboratories meeting the standards were permitted to reopen, while those failing to comply were required to continue improvements until approval was granted.

This special safety campaign, systematically carried out under the college’s unified leadership, has not only addressed numerous hazards but also strengthened the safety responsibility framework at all levels. It has reinforced the consensus of "safety first, prevention foremost" among all members of the college. Moving forward, the college will build on this achievement, further promote a culture of safety, and continuously improve laboratory safety standards. These efforts aim to provide a safer and more regulated environment for teaching and research, ensuring a solid foundation for the college’s sustainable and high-quality development.
