On the morning of March 22, 2025, over 70 first-grade students from the SUS Tech Affiliated Experimental School and their parents visited the College of Materials Science and Engineering at Shenzhen University for a highly educational science popularization activity.

The event commenced in the first-floor lobby, where Mr. Wang Dagang from the college's Teaching Experiment Center briefed the children on laboratory tour precautions, emphasizing the importance of following the volunteer's instructions and maintaining laboratory safety.

Subsequently, in Meeting Room 534, Mr. Wang Dagang delivered a popular science lecture titled "Materials and Our Lives." He provided an accessible introduction to the history, classification, and applications of materials, along with demonstrations of advanced functional materials, significantly broadening the students' knowledge horizons.

Immediately following the lecture, the children participated in a spring-themed craft activity in Meeting Room 534. Using natural materials like branches, leaves, flowers, and grass, they created spring landscape paintings, further deepening their understanding of materials science.

In Laboratory 216, instructors Mr. Luo Junxuan and Mr. Zhuang Juncheng guided the students in using stereomicroscopes and metallographic microscopes to explore the microscopic world. They observed common everyday items such as white sugar crystals, hair strands, and plant tissue samples, gaining an intuitive understanding of microscopic structures.

In Laboratory 203, Mr. Zeng Yuxiang introduced the students to the principles and applications of 3D printing. He demonstrated how this technology transforms creative ideas into tangible objects and gifted the children small 3D-printed souvenirs, sparking their strong interest in technology.

This science popularization event not only ignited the children's curiosity about materials science but also enhanced their understanding of the discipline. Parents expressed a strong desire for more similar activities in the future. Through such initiatives, the College of Materials Science at Shenzhen University is committed to fostering a mutual enhancement between scientific spirit and cultural literacy on campus, jointly promoting the well-rounded development of its students.
